Simply put, conditioners replenish moisture that has been stripped off from shampooing. Conditioners make hair feel soft and smooth, easy to manage, reduces frizz, and most importantly, it prevents the cuticle from getting damages.
Hair conditioners enhance the appearance and manageability of the hair. They replenish the oil or sebum to the hair strands that were removed from shampooing. They are also used to "recondition" the hair after treatments such as hair coloring, straightening, or waving.
Hair conditioners have cationic surfactants with a positive electric charge. This allows the negative charge of hair to be attracted to it. This allows the conditioner to penetrate and work its way into the hair strand. In damaged hair, there are more negatively charged particles, so the conditioner is able to reduce the static from the damaged hair.
Conditioners also lower the friction between hair strands, resulting in finer and shinier hair. By adding back moisture to hair fibers, they allow easier combing and gentler detangling of hair strands.
All conditioners are not made the same. So even if you have oily hair and think that there's no conditioner that will work for you, well you might have picked the wrong formula.
Different formulations call for different hair types with different benefits. Before you immediately grab a hair conditioner, determine which type of hair you have and if you have a specific concern you want to target like shine, volume, and the likes.
Intensive hair conditioners or deep conditioners are recommended for dry hair. They are more concentrated and are usually left on for 20-30 minutes before rinsing. Look for moisturizing ingredients such as oils, esters, and waxes. The most common synthetic oil in conditioners is silicone (ex: dimethicone, dimethiconol). As for natural oils, the usual components are olive oil, jojoba oil, and grape seed oil.
To keep your hair healthy, pick a balancing conditioner. This type of will not make your hair limp but it will add bounce and shine. It also offers just the right type of moisturization, nothing too heavy while preventing excessive production of oil.
If you have baseline oily hair, you may skip conditioner. But, there are formulations that can help address the oiliness. Best to choose the lightweight type of conditioners without added oil component. Added protein can be beneficial because it is effective at reducing excess oil. Blow drying conditioner is another type of instant conditioner that doesn't have oil.
Look for strengthening protein ingredients that can repair the damage. Proteins for the hair include keratin and collagen. These protein-rich conditioners can be formulated either as rinse-out, deep, or leave-in. Though protein-rich conditioners address the damage, it is recommended to apply it once a month or bimonthly. Overuse leads to brittleness.
Without further ado, our recommendations for conditioners. Take a look at the spec table to find out which hair type it is suitable for. From hereon, never leave conditioners out of your hair care routine.

The usual conditioner for normal hair type is rinse-out or instant conditioner. It is applied immediately after shampoo and rinsed out with water. They are less effective in managing damaged hair due to short contact time with the hair.
When applying conditioner, apply it only on the hair strands and not on the scalp. The scalp already produces natural oils. Apply conditioner starting from the midshaft going towards the tips. It is best to rinse off with cold water to avoid damage to the hair strands. The choice of conditioner depends on how you like to enhance the appearance of your hair.
Update your hair cair routine. Say goodbye to unruly hair and hello to a lustrous and healthier hair!
We hope we convinced you to not leave out conditioning your hair. To condition the hair means to make it more manageable and to improve how it looks and how it feels. Remember that when selecting the best hair conditioner, always consider the type of hair that you have and look out for nourishing ingredients.
