A Yummy Lumpiang Shanghai Recipe

Here's what you'll need:

  • 250 grams of ground lean pork or beef
  • 100 grams of minced shrimp 
  • 1 minced onion
  • 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic
  • 1 diced carrot
  • 4 stalks of minced parsley or kinchay
  • 1 diced singkamas
  • 1 stalk of diced celery
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • lumpia wrapper
  • cooking oil
  • 2 tablespoons of vinegar
  • 1/2 cup and 2-3 tablespoons of water
  • 1/2 tablespoon of flour

Procedure:

  1. Get a mixing bowl that is big enough for all the ingredients. Then, mix everything except for the oil and the wrapper. Everything should be well incorporated into the mix.
  2. Use a spoon to transfer the mixture onto separate sheets of lumpia wrapper. Once you're done putting in the filling, fold the wrapper to wrap the mixture in.
  3. Heat up the oil. Once it's sufficiently hot, start putting the rolls in. Fry the lumpia until it becomes golden brown.
  4. Put the rolls in a strainer to drain excess oil. Afterward, set the shanghai rolls aside to make room for making the sweet and sour sauce.
  5. To make the sauce, put water, salt, brown sugar, and vinegar inside a non-aluminum saucepan.
  6. Begin stirring when the sauce starts to boil. You must reduce the heat to make it simmer.
  7. Add slurry made from water and flour into the mix. Keep stirring until you reach the desired consistency. The amount of slurry you need depends on the kind of flour you use.
  8. You're now ready to serve the lumpiang shanghai together with a sweet and sour dip. Eat it while it's hot to get the best out of this yummy comfort food.
