How to Choose a Caramel Cake - Buying Guide

In order to get your hands on the best and decadent caramel cakes, there are a few things you must keep in mind. Check out this buying guide below that aims to make the whole process of ordering them easier for you.

Determine if You Want to Buy per Slice or Whole Cake

Determine if You Want to Buy per Slice or Whole Cake

Before considering anything else, you must first decide on the serving size of the caramel cake you wish to purchase. Most online bakeshops sell cakes that you can opt to purchase per slice or as a whole. Your purpose of ordering them should determine which serving size you should go for.

If you simply want to satisfy your personal cravings, buying individual cake slices may be enough. Single-serve cake slices also allow you to enjoy a particular shop's signature caramel cake without having to commit to full-inch ones. They typically come in grab-and-go packaging, so you can easily consume them too.

On the other hand, if you wish to buy one for purposes like celebrations, you can opt for whole cakes. This serving size is meant for sharing, and you can get them in either round or rectangle variants. Additionally, there are more pastry shops that cater to this type of serving size.

For Special Occasions, Opt for Customized Ones

For Special Occasions, Opt for Customized Ones

Although most social occasions and gatherings have been halted due to the pandemic, you can still celebrate special days and milestones at home. If you need a personalized cake for a special event, there are also some shops that sell customizable caramel cakes.

They are usually circular or rectangular, allowing more space for your personalized dedications. These can allow you to indulge in sinfully delicious caramel cakes no matter what event you need them for. You don't have to settle for the usual dedication cakes that are merely presentable but tend to be lacking in taste.

Go Over Some Reviews and Feedbacks

Go Over Some Reviews and Feedbacks

Since online purchases do not allow you to get free taste or samples of a food product, it is important to utilize customer reviews and feedback sections. Most online shops would have a catalog for their previous customers' testimonies, and this can give you a sneak peek about the shop's service and their caramel cake's quality.

These reviews are the closest you can get to the real thing since they are from people who previously bought the product. Through these reviews, you can even gauge the caramel cake's sweetness level. Hence, this step is crucial to determine whether it will be up to your liking or not.

Consider the Shop’s Preparation Time

Consider the Shop’s Preparation Time

The majority of caramel cakes sold online are made upon order. Hence, some would usually take orders on a preorder basis only. Most of them also have a quota for the number of cakes they can only accommodate for a certain period. Thus, it is advisable to place your order at least 3-4 days in advance for better chances of booking them.

Meanwhile, there are also caramel cakes that you can order and get within the same day. Several shops that have a lead time as short as this are usually those with physical stores. They allow you to order their in-house cakes, usually per slice and have them delivered to you instantly in a grab-and-go packaging.

Check the Available Payment Schemes

Check the Available Payment Schemes

Online food shops usually offer various payment methods, including bank and e-wallet transfers, cash on delivery (COD), and credit card payments. While COD is the preferred method for many customers, several shops lean more on the pay-as-you-order payment mode through virtual remittance and the use of e-wallets like G-cash and Paymaya.

Besides lessening physical contact when transporting orders, it is also a way for shops to avoid joy buyers. However, for those who do not have the means to pay virtually, there are also ones that allow the cash-on-delivery (COD) option. Orders placed through third-party food delivery services are more likely to have this payment scheme.

See Their Delivery Options

See Their Delivery Options

Different food shops offer varying delivery options. Some shops have an in-house delivery service meant for transporting orders that are only from them. These shops tend to have a fixed rate regardless of where you are from, as long as their services cover your area.

On the other hand, there are also businesses connected to food delivery services. To order from them, you can book through third-party couriers like Grab Food and Foodpanda to have their caramel cakes delivered to your doorstep. The rate would usually depend on the proximity of the pick-up location from your home.

Meanwhile, some shops only allow pick up from their physical store. You can also opt for this option if you wish to save on the shipping fee and get the cakes yourself to have them on time.

Can’t Get Enough of Caramel? Try This Recipe!

If you can't get enough of the sweet and creamy goodness of caramel, check out and try this caramel sauce recipe at home by Eugenie Kitchen. You can incorporate it into your favorite drinks and desserts, you can even use at as a dip whenever you need that sweet and slightly salty kick of caramel!

What You'll Need:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold
  • ½ cup heavy cream, cold
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Procedure:

  1. To start making the caramel sauce, melt the sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Once you notice the sugar partially turning into a golden color, start stirring it so it will not crystalize.
  2. Once melted, add in 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter and start whisking. It is better to use cold butter in this mixture to prevent the melted sugar from caramelizing. Continue to whisk until all the butter melts.
  3. Proceed to mix in half a cup of heavy cream and continue whisking at a fast pace. During this step, bubbles and foams will start to appear, and you'll notice the caramel clumping too.
  4. To finish the sauce, add 1/2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Once it all settles in with the mixture, take the sauce mixture off the heat and proceed to cool it.
