Do you need a 3000 mAh power bank or a higher one? There are also power banks for laptops, while some are best for iPhones or other smartphones. With our buying guide reviewed by IT expert Kevin Lee Cardoza, and our product recommendations, we will help you choose the right one!

Wondering how long you should charge your phone? If you want to maintain the batteries' longevity, it is best to charge your phone until it reaches 80% of its capacity. Doing so can make your battery "relax" better when it is not charging.
Here are some key points to consider:
For more detailed information, read through our buying guide below.
A power bank with 10,000 mAH or higher than that is a good choice for people who want to charge their phone twice or more. It is ideal for those who use their phone for gaming or those who often consume media. The power could also determine the weight of the power bank. Normally, high-capacity power banks are a bit heavier than lower maH power banks.
A great outdoor power bank should be able to fully charge one primary device you own, not once or twice, but even thrice or more. Check your smartphone's battery capacity and use it as a factor when buying a power bank.
If you usually carry two or more devices, we recommend getting a power bank with two or more USB ports. You’ll be able to charge your smartphone and tablet at the same time or share it with a friend.
Additionally, it is essential to check the type of port that the power bank has. Most, if not all, power banks have USB-A since it has been the standard for years. However, USB-C is becoming more and more common nowadays. Do make sure to check your cable charger as well to see if it can be used with your power bank!
How fast a power bank can charge your device is not determined by its capacity but by its output charge. The output charge is measured in amperes, so the higher the ampere, the faster it can transfer power to your device. That means an output charge of 2A would be faster than 1A, while a 2.1A output charge would be faster than 2A.
Aside from the amperage, you may also look for the labels such as "Quick Charge" and "USB Power Delivery." Fast charging is a convenient feature if you're in a hurry and need to power up your device quickly. However, fast charging may have an effect on your phone's battery life if done frequently. Take note that you have to ensure that your device supports fast charging, or it won’t make any difference to have a power bank with a high-output charge.
Older smartphones do not support overcharging. Using a power bank with such capabilities will cause battery charge rejection at the very least or phone battery explosion at worst.
As for fast charging, if you're not in a hurry, I highly suggest that you charge your device with normal power delivery. Fast charging, especially if not supported by your device, can degrade the battery.

Below are some of the most asked questions on the web answered by IT Consultant, Developer, and Instructor Kevin Lee Cardoza.
A power bank will only "explode" if it is charged under extreme circumstances. Modern power banks have overcharging and overcurrent protections that shield them from such possibility. However, manufacturing defects, and heat and liquid contact may override such protection features. The worst-case scenario for battery overcharging should be battery bloat which is caused by waste heat affecting the battery's chemistry.
It is ideal to charge a power bank (or any battery in that case) when its battery level is down to 20 percent and stop it when it reaches 80 percent. Charging within these parameters ensures that charging doesn't wear out your battery too much while also avoiding reaching the power bank's charging limits.
In some cases, yes. Newer laptops with USB Type C charging can be compatible with power banks as long as they have enough juice to provide a laptop battery's bigger capacity.
