Standard running treadmills are around 50 inches long, but if you’re over 6 feet tall, then you’ll need a 54-inch belt for running. Standard track width is at 18 inches, but if you have a bigger build, look for ones that are 22 inches wide.
Peak horsepower is the highest generated horsepower that a motor can produce, but it cannot be maintained for a long time. Continuous duty is how much power a treadmill can maintain throughout your workout. Treadmill duty is the in-between of peak and continuous duty.
What you need to be looking at is the continuous duty rating. We recommend 2.0HP for walking, 2.5HP for jogging, and 3.0HP for running. Also, if you weigh more than 200 pounds, increase those numbers by 0.5HP.
Generally, treadmills have a weight capacity ranging from 250 to 400 pounds. When choosing a treadmill, make sure it can support at least 50 pounds more than your body weight. There are also treadmills that can support 500 pounds, but these will cost a lot more.
There are also programs for burning fat and calories which can help you set a goal and motivate you to work out. Although if you want to simply use it for running, you won’t need to get one with different features.
Also, depending on how much space you have in your home, you might want to check a treadmill’s storage options. There are some that can be folded flat for easy storage and some that can’t. Some models even have wheels you can attach to the bottom so you can easily move them. As long as you make sure to choose based on your needs, you’ll be set.
If your workout involves walking and running, then choose a treadmill with a variety of speed adjustments. Just make sure that you get a treadmill with a wide belt to avoid getting your feet tangled.

Also make sure to check the treadmill’s dimensions first before purchasing a mat. If your treadmill is too big, you can purchase a small mat just for the treadmill’s legs.
Wearing running shoes will also help absorb any impact on your feet during a run. Choosing a pair of good running shoes will also become an important factor in keeping you motivated, so be sure to choose ones that are comfortable.
To make sure your treadmill stays in tiptop shape, spray your treadmill with silicone spray once a month. Lift up the track belt, then spray it underneath. The spray serves as a lubricant that keeps your treadmill from experiencing too much stress or pressure. Too much application can cause it to become slippery, so go easy on application.
